Downloadable Carbon Calculator Automatically Offests Your Computer

Now there is a program that measures your computer's energy use and automatically buys the right amount of carbon offset for you.

"With the manufacture and energy used to run computers creating as big a carbon footprint as the global airline industry, green minded computer users now have an option to offset their PC’s carbon emissions.The Little Green Genie is a program that works by calculating how much energy is being used by a computer, and then uses this information to buy a proportionate amount of carbon credits to offset this use.For the average computer user this will cost roughly ten dollars a year, and with two typical Internet searches using the equivalent energy of boiling an electric kettle according to a Harvard University physicist, the benefits eclipse the small financial annual outlay." The New Carbon "Clock" of New York City

If you are ever wondering how many tons of of greenhouse gases are pumped into the atmosphere a new carbon counter in New York City will tell you.

Science Insider reports:

"A new attraction debuted outside Madison Square Garden.... : a 20-meter-tall billboard that flashes the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The current number is 3.6 trillion metric tons, and is rising by about 2 billion a month. The sign is run by Deutsche Bank, which manages $4 billion in investments related to climate change." New Carbon Footprint Calculator for Filmmaking

Fil, production is just one example of an enterprise that has a greenhouse gas emission impact that might not be well understood. A new calculator is designed to help filmakers assess and lower their carbon footprint.

"Film London - perhaps the UK's most pioneering screen agency - has released in Cannes its Green Screen plan, with a Carbon Calulator Excel file for calculating a film's carbon footprint. With Hollywood film productions producing more carbon than all LA air traffic, and London's screen industries producing 125,000 tonnes alone (the equivalent of 24,000 houses), the tool and its accompanying research (also available in Hindi, Arabic and Chinese) is long awaited."
